Simple Woman #75

For Today . . . February 8, 2010

Outside my window . . .  moderating temperatures with a high of -6 degrees C today and a strong south wind blowing.   The sun was nowhere to be found again and everything was covered with hoarfrost which soon blew away.

I am thankful . . .  for beautiful fresh flowers on my kitchen table.

And I also am thankful . . .
for the privilege of spending time with Meadow, Blake and Naomi at the museum last week.  It was fun to watch Meadow absorb information and participate in the hands-on displays.

I am praying . . .
for our son-in-law Tyler as he completes another week of his rotation in neurological surgery.  Last week he was in an operation from 9 to 5 p.m., with no breaks for food, water or restroom use.  That's a long time to concentrate, even when you are a student, without taking any care of your body!!  And I'm praying for Melinda and Samuel too as he does rotations after surgery is finished and tonight there was an emergency case after that.  The life of a doctor!

I am thinking . . .  about how God has always provided for us and that we can't even imagine how wonderful His plans are for us.

I am creating . . .
a scrapbook layout with fairy tale style journalling, based on today's Log Your Memory Sweet Talk challenge.

I am celebrating . . .
Melinda's 30th birthday!  And looking forward to an in-person party later this month :))

From the kitchen . . . leftover Chinese food for lunch, supper:  Potato Pancakes with Creamy Mushroom Sauce - just like they serve in Poland! and fried kidney (a childhood treat that our family still loves) with applesauce and ice cream for dessert.

I am wearing . . .  light brown cords, long sleeve white tshirt, brown downfilled vest, a carved brown coconut shell necklace from Costa Rica that my sister gave me and red slippers.

I am reading . . . Matthew 26 - The Lord's Supper and Jesus is arrested - v. 39 "My Father, if it is possible may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks - a US Marine carries a photo found in Iraq, back to the US with him and sets out to find the woman in the photo.  "Sparks writes an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and lasting love." A great read for Valentine's Day, I think.

I am hoping . . .  Canada will win some medals and all athletes with jump farther, ski and skate faster and have the time of their lives as they live their Olympic dreams.

I am hearing . . .
a CBC TV special on the Winter Olympic games.

I am going . . . to do some experimenting with cupcakes this week.

Around the house and yard . . .
same old snowdrifts and a generally tidy house.  I'm hoping to put up a few Valentine decorations this week.

One of my favourite things . . .
watching curling games on TV with my mom and dad.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . .
3 more days of subbing (I am so blessed to be working this much), some accounting to take care of and get out off my mind!, the top of my quilt for "The Road to Spring Quilt-Along" to piece and sew, a few Valentines to send off, the Winter Olympics will start (WOW!) and a bowling party for our niece's 29th (seriously!!) birthday party on Valentine's Day.  It's going to be a fun week!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing . .  . the hoarfrost has been heavy and so intricate lately!  This means the air is humid and it's chilly, especially when the wind picks up.  As soon as the wind blows, the hoarfrost floats off and the whole effect soon disappears.  Meanwhile it is beautiful!

Thanks to Peggy at Simple Woman Daybooks for this little project.

  2. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. Tyler got home at 9pm last night. :)

We're also looking forward to the Olympics this weekend. I wonder how different our coverage will be than yours. We'll definitely miss meeting the Canadian Olympians.

How did the potatoe pancakes and mushroom sauce turn out? Did Dad enjoy it?

I'm hoping you get a little warmer weather and some sunshine back.

  3. Very pretty picture, Crystal! All that baking you mentioned earlier this month DID get me into the kitchen--I made some oatmeal cookies this weekend (and there are still a few left!) Maybe I will experiment with cupcakes this week, too! XO
