Back at Home

We're home, the camper is emptied out, laundry is going, and these pictures from last week are still making me smile!

Peaches and apricots

2 batches of jam and 1 of chutney

I finished the apricot jam today (it's so yummy - definitely my favourite!) and wiped off the jars of tomatoes so everything's ready to go down on the shelves in the basement. Most of the jam is freezer type so it's frozen and tucked safely away. I think I'd still like to can a batch of pears so I'll try to find a box of those next week and the apples are ready for a day of applesauce making. I do declare, I'm feeling a little like Ma in the Little House on the Prairie books with all this summer work!

This morning I finished reading The Shack (Where Tragedy Confronts Eternity) by William Young, the August selection for our book club. Oh, my - what a read! I'm really looking forward to the discussion this month but I'm still sorting out my own reaction.

"In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant THE SHACK wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him." (from back cover)

  1. I really want to read The Shack too. The book I waited for for so long was the latest Elm Tree Quilts book - the Winding Ways Quilt, and so help me, I dropped it in the bath last night. It is impersonating a flower and is spreading its petals as I speak. I was not impressed. At all.

But I am SO impressed at all your hard work! Wonderful jars full of summer goodness!

  2. You sure have been busy. Every year I say I am going to do some canning but I never get to it. Seeing your really makes me want to do it again I think we will only get salsa done this year.

I had not heard of that book before, but I'm putting it on my 'to read' list right away.

  4. I'm currently reading The Shack (about 2/3 through it), and I'm finding it fascinating and thought-provoking. There are some really good things in it.

  5. Great photos of all that work. Your pantry must be full. Let me know how the chutney tastes. I'm curious.
Audrey suggested that book to me in the summer. She was still reading it when we left. I'd be very curious to hear about book club discussions.
