Simple Woman #86

For Today . . .  May 3, 2010

Outside my window . . . chilly grey day.  It's raining nearby and is trying hard to do the same here.  Temperature is +7 degrees C and it feels cold.  The forecast is for rain and snow, a high of +1 and a spring blizzard in our area  tomorrow - welcome to May!

I am thankful . . . for memories and pictures - and time! - to scrapbook.

And I also am thankful . . .  that four of our grandchildren were here last week.  It was a busy, fun-filled house!

I am praying . . . for my Mom and sisters, and all mothers, as we celebrate their lives this week.

I am thinking . . .  about how and when I  will spend time with my Mom this week.

I am creating . . .
a birthday card for Samuel and Mother's Day cards.

I am celebrating . . .how very blessed my life is!

From the kitchen . . .  Tropical Granola with Saskatoons for breakfast, Cheesy Vegetable Chowder for lunch and Taco Salad for supper.  There's a batch of orange cinnamon buns and a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies on the go too.

I am wearing . . .  black track pants, blue tshirt, orange University of Calgary sweatshirt and crocs.

I am reading . . .  Luke 10 - "Jesus said, Go and do likewise."
Reclaiming the "L" Word (Renewing the Church from Its Lutheran Core) by Kelly A. Fryer - I've finished reading it but we still have 2 chapters to discuss with our study group.
Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali - the true story of a woman raised in a Muslim family in four different countries.  She escaped from a forced marriage to the Netherlands, earned a degree in political science, won a seat in Parliament and made a movie with Theo Van Gogh, who was later killed.  She has worked tirelessly for the rights of Muslim women and the reform of Islam.  The story of her life is amazing and gives me a glimpse into Islam and the role of women.
I am hoping . . . to get my laptop back this week.

I am hearing . . . the suppertime news on CTV.

I am going . . . to drop things off at the second hand store this week.

Around the house and yard . . . parsley to plant in an outside pot, laundry going, cleaned light fixtures in the bathroom, with vacuuming and dusting still to come.  Going away on the weekends means that housework is preempted!

One of my favourite things . . .  the yearly day that my sister and I spend with our Mom at this time of year.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . a day of subbing, taking a parcel to the post office, haircut, meeting in the city, time with my Mom and sister, and planting in the garden.

A quote for today . . .

“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.”

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you  . . . hoping that someday soon the flowers around here will be this beautiful!

  2. Thanks for the reminder about Mother's Day - I forget when the rest of the world celebrates! My irises, I see are starting to shoot upwards now, so the flowers may not be a long while coming. But the weather is very like yours - 7C is about average, and not great at all. Enjoy your week, Crystal! I hope the laptop returns soon, all fixed and ready to go....

  3. I thoroughly enjoy these posts of yours. I see you started reading Infidel - we'll have to have a discussion about it. It's unbelievable what she goes through.

    Hope the snow melts soon!
