World Wide Photo Walk - part 2

Some people went on the Photo Walk with the goal of shooting a particular type of shot but I just snapped wildly at everything that caught my fancy!

I thought this sign was perfect - the Photo Walk was a special event!

I like how the way the buildings and road curve around here.  The sky was cloudy for the first part of the morning and it made for great sky photos.

Esther and I want to go check this place out!

Classic shot of the North Saskatchewan River, the Convention Center (low white and black building just above the trees), Canada Place (red building) and the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald (castle like on the left side).  I like the reflection.

Carved in the bridge railing.

Just pointed down and shot as he passed me.

Resting on the picnic table, oblivious to all who spoke to him.  One of the guys in our group got an amazing photo with lower light - the light is coming through individual hairs of the beard.

Chinese Bridge

In the Chinese gardens.

Photographers at work!  A Chinese couple was in the pagoda and their photographer was taking pictures of them, while we took pictures of all of them!

I think the title might be "Going Up Together" - again just snapped off as they passed by.  I'm amazed at how straight I got everything.

Esther had quite a chat with this man, after she reassured him that she wasn't "another damn reporter"!

Another photographer at work under the Low Level Bridge.  Do you recognize the tree from yesterday - last photo I posted, I think?

On the bridge - thank you for railings or I might have been too close for comfort!

Fairmont Hotel MacDonald

Canada Place and the Convention Center, seen from the other direction.

Thanks for looking!  I took 276 pictures in 2 hours that morning!  It was a great morning spent doing 2 things that my sister loves - walking and taking pictures.  This was our time together in honour of her birthday - love you, E!!

World Wide Photo Walk - part 1

Saturday morning, bright and early, our group of about 40 photographers met at the Muttart Conservatory in the Edmonton river valley.  We started out in the gardens there - I love this shot of people busy capturing images.

I decided to show you my nature photos in this post and my city photos in the next one.

This is one of my favourites - it's really hard to capture insects but this little grasshopper was most cooperative :))

Also hard to photograph are birds!  I was inspired to try my hand at it by some photos my nephew shared in his presentation last week - thanks, E!

These were the most interesting buds / blossoms on a plant that had leaves like rhubarb.  I think they are some sort of thistles.

I really like the composition of elements in this one.

It has been absolutely amazing - and so, so inspiring  - to see other pictures taken on the walk.  You can check it out at our Flickr site.    I took 270 photos in the 2 hours and already I know of some shots that I missed.  I would definitely go on another of these walks again sometime!

2009 Worldwide Photo Walk

We went - we walked - we took pictures - we marveled - we were inspired - we enjoyed the 2 hours together!

More to follow - I'm very tired!

Ten on Thursday

1.  This was the best gift Heather could have given Helayna this week!  She recorded herself reading 2 stories for Helayna and we downloaded them onto my computer.  She loves to watch Mommy reading her stories.  I think she just about has Chicka Chicka Boom Boom memorized!

This is a great idea for any moms that are leaving little ones for a few days.  They love seeing Mom and hearing her talk directly to them.

2.  The sandbox was well used today!

3.  My sister and I are joining 27,000 photographers worldwide on Saturday and going on a Photo Walk.  This project is the brain child of Scott Kelby, a noted photographer and author.  We are walking with a group in Edmonton(one of 3), starting at the Muttart Conservatory.  I'll show you what we find to frame in our viewfinders.

And - you should consider signing up to join a walk in your area!  There's still time and with 915 locations worldwide, I know there's one in your community!!  All photographers (from an amateur with a point and shoot camera to pros) are welcome to join!

4.  Check out this week's project, Nature's Beauty,  at Her Space My Space His Space.  I am really looking forward to doing this but I think it will be next week for me.  I think this is a great way to capture your garden and yard - and would make a wonderful mini-book scrapbook project.

5.  I have 17 tomatoes on my potted Early Girl plant!  It's blooming away so I think it will get some more fruit.  This is really the first time I've grown a tomato and I am very excited to see these guys ripen.

6.  Helayna wasn't very interested in swimming in the lake today.  I think she was surprised there was no swimming pool.  Maybe another time.

7.  Counting berries and moving them from dish to dish can keep a little girl occupied for a very long time!

8.  Peonies - roses - poppies - pansies - petunias - so much goodness blooming these days!

9.  "Dear Jesus.
Thank you for sand -
Thank you for sun -
Thank you for food.
Amen"
- Helayna's prayer at lunchtime today - there's not too much more a little girl could want on a summer day, is there?!!

10.  There's a whole lot of playing going on around here today - pushing dolls in the stroller, putting money in the cash register, cuddling Amanda and Lucy, reading books and talking to pretend friends.  There isn't a moment to lose!

(She goes faster than I can get the camera focussed!!)
